Community Farm Alliance Releases Farmer Resiliency Initiative Summary Report
CAN anchor organization CFA has released a report summarizing the Farmer Resiliency Initiative in 2020. This initiative includes the Central Appalachian Family Farm Fund (CAFFF) and the Kentucky Black Farmer Fund (KBFF). While CFA served as the regional facilitator for this initiative and administered funds in Central/Western KY, collaborations powered this work. The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, the Appalachian Impact Fund and the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky came together to create the fund. Additionally, CAN member organizations ACEnet, ASD, WVFFC, and FAKY oversaw the administration of the funds across the various sub-regions. Finally, the addition of the Kentucky Black Farmer Fund resulted from a collaboration between CFA and Black Soil: Our Better Nature. The two funds offered grants of up to $750 to family farmers across 45 Central Appalachian counties and to Black farmers across Kentucky; this initiative distributed over $160,000 to farmers.
